What Is A Terrarium

You would be surprise that a lot of people are quite unfamiliar with the word terrarium.  If you are one of persons then you  have come to the right place.  My sister has always been interested in insects and reptile (yuk), but I was more interested in plants.  Anyhow she was responsible for my acquaintance with the word terrarium.

She had gone and bought a 4 by 4 terrarium for some grasshoppers she had caught while on a school field trip.  Anyhow I digress I won't bore you with the detail of grasshoppers in a glass case.

A Terrarium is a container designed to hold small plants and animals/insects in controlled conditions. Its closed nature creates an environment that is easy to control, allowing people to simulate everything from the desert to the rainforest. Terrariums was first used by scientist to conduct research studies. But today they have grown in popularity by persons who are interested in creating a mini indoor garden in a glass container or an environment that simulate the real world for there pet reptile or insect.

Inside the glass, the plants require low maintenance and are perfect for people who don't have the time to care for a garden or just don't have a "green thumb." You can use a wide variety of plants and place them in small glass containers that can go on desks, night tables, and other places where space is limited. A terrarium will add a bit of outdoor beauty andpeace to any living space.

Do remember that all reptiles that are kept as pets need some sort of heat source in their tank or terrarium in order to survive. This is because reptiles are cold blooded and depend on ambient temperatures to regulate their body’s temperature.

Terrarium Substrate Options

There are a few different options for substrate, or bedding, including newspaper, cypress mulch, and terrarium carpet. Cedar should never be used because it is toxic to snakes, and wood shavings may be inadvisable because the snake can swallow it.

Where To Get A Terrarium and Supplies

When my sister was in the market for a Terrarium my parents didn't know where to get one.  Not only was I ignorance of what a Terrarium was but it seem  no one knew where to get one.  My mother began to search online and after  a few hours we came across Amazon.  We read the reviews and most were very positive a few customers were a bit upset due to the wait time to get there pets comfortable in there new home.  Anyhow after a few reviews my Mom decided to get a 4 by 4 and it came maybe within 2 to 3 days bubble rapped and foamed.
